VA - Mark Pritchard Presents Feel The Spirit

Great collection of 'Other worldy folk music gems and psychedelics' compiled by the man with numerous aliases. A few words from Mr. Pritchard from the inlay - "...basically I've never been a massive fan of traditional folk music. However I would always have a dig through the folk section in second hand record stores because every now and then I would come across a certain style of folk that would give me chills. Call it 'Folk Funk' or 'Soft Psych' or even 'Acid Folk', but what interests me with these tracks is that you can hear that the musicians are drawing on a lot of different influences and styles: Jazz, Prog, Soul, Experimental music; to create something new and original..."

VA - Teutonik Disaster

"Just like Kraut-Rock stemmed from an appreciation of anglo-saxon music allied with the will to translate it into a Germanised environment, there seems to have been a no-wave German scene, spawn from some sort of Teutonik Disaster, and necessarily something different and maladjusted when compared to the original NYC blueprint. Gomma artist Munk here compiles the most thrilling cuts, and am quite confident for many of the most knowledgeable heads completely unknown classics. The tracklisting showcases a similar evolution as that of NYC and from no-rock to early Electro styles, it's a pure pleasure to immerse oneself's into tongue in cheek stormers - Schalaraffenland-, dancefloor stompers - Lover's Walkmen- and of course complete nutcases - Gilda, Steril, Musik Musik Musik. Dat comp's consistency is simply impressive." Thanks to Tigersushi for the review.

VA - DJ Morpheus Presents I Can't Live Without My Radio

"Tracked by DJ Morpheus (a.k.a. Samy Birnbach)-former singer of early-'80s post-punks Minimal Compact- Can't Live Without My Radio is from/for the cassette generation. Featuring artists like Virgin Prunes, Love & Rockets, Heaven 17, Shriekback, Head, Timezone feat. John Lydon & Afrika Bambaataa, Thrill Kill Kult, 23 Skidoo, and Einst¸rzende Neubauten, this compilation (not "mix") embodies the dry, oblique architecture of '80s college radio captured to Dolby Noise Reduction tape during a Goth-meets-"glam savage" overnight slot. Here, rigid, rhythmic underpinnings vie with murky collages under scorched gloss, coagulating in industrial punk-funk New Wave/New Beat. Urban and humid, while sinister and sterile, songs such as Age of Chance's appropriation of Prince's "Kiss" are as much about gleefully marring pop's veneer as they are calculated designs for social and stylistic change." Thanks to xlr8r

VA - DJ Harvey Presents Moonshadow

I'm hoping a few of you knowledgable readers will be able to help. Both these mixes I've had lying about for a while, ones just got 'Moon Shadow Part One' written on it whereas the other 'More Moonshadow'. Am I right in thinking their were quite a few more mixes in the Moon Shadow series? If anyone has more info, tracklistings, links to the others in the series or can confirm these are by Harvey even, would be appreciated. Both great selections whoever compiled them.

Womack & Womack

Sorry about the lack of posts recently, more comps coming soon. Been listening to a lot of Womack & Womack this week for some reason, especially the 'Conscience' LP. Such a great record. Ended up digging out a few more bits & pieces whilst I was at it so might as well share them. Most people probably already have these in some shape or form but here they anyway. Certified SGM classics.

Womack & Womack - Conscience Of My Conscience

Bobby Womack - Inherit The Wind (Revenge Rework)

Womack & Womack - Life Is Just A Ballgame (Ballroom Remix)

Womack & Womack - Baby I'm Scared Of You (Mark E Edit)

Shriekback - Accretions

Since I've already started the tenuous 1982 link I might as well try to drag it out a bit longer now, so here's another beauty from that musically great year. From their Tench EP, imho still sounding fresher (& better) than most of the new releases I've listened to this week...

Wide Boy Awake - Slang Teacher

I didn't actually plan this but here's another from 1982. Bit of a coincidence but must have been a good year for electronic synth pop type stuff I guess.

Wide Boy Awake - Slang Teacher

Sakamoto & Sylvian - Bamboo Houses

Whilst posting the below, it also reminded of this great track. I'll have to do a proper Ryuichi Sakamoto post one of these days...amazing to think how much brilliant music he's produced over the years. I'd love to know what other peoples favourites are too, feel free to leave any recommendations in the comments below.

Sakamoto & Sylvian - Bamboo Houses (12" Version)

EDIT: Gotta add an excellent edit of this as well. Thanks to Nassau. Go check his myspace for more great stuff...

Japan - Ghosts

Been listening to a lot of Japan recently, especially the Tin Drum LP. Here's two very different versions of one of my favourite tracks from it.

Explorer - Rabbits

My internet connection is f&cked to put it plainly so posting individual tracks on the upload speed available is the best I can be bothered to do unfortunately. I'll start with this slightly obscure beauty from Explorer's 1982 'Untitled' LP which came out on X Records (Germany). Plenty more to follow...

VA - Electronic Body Music

If your not that familiar with much EBM stuff like me, this is quite a good introduction. I can't find much more info about this comp except that it's supposedly a pretty rare Japan only CD that came out as part of some Front 242 box set over there in 1990. Admittedly not all EBM stuff is for me but for a pretty obscure scene of music you can still definitely hear it's influences in a lot of stuff coming out today.

Tracklisting
01 Front242 - Never Stop
02 The Young Gods - Rue Des Tempetes
03 Meat Beat Manifesto - Helter Skelter
04 The Neon Judgement - 1313
05 The Weathermen - Heat Seeker
06 A;grumh - Danger Zone
07 The Legendary Pink Dots - Blacklist
08 Borghesia - Young Prisoners
09 The Cassandra Complex - Nice Work (Cellphone Mix)
10 Trisomie 21 - Bamboo
11 Chris and Cosey - Exotica
12 The Young Gods - Longue Route (Remix)
13 Meat Beat Manifesto - Psyche-Out (Version 2)
14 Front242 - Headhunter (v1.0)
