No matter what type of DJ you are, if the dance floor is empty and you need a tune that's guaranteed to get people on it, you could do a lot worse than this. A certified party classic.
Glasgow meets Detroit. Originally released in 96 but then re-released with this remix on the EP the year after. A classic remix from Carl Craig which seems to sound better on rainy dark days such as today for some reason.
I was initially just going to post a track or two up from this comp but thought I might as well put the whole thing up for download since it's a bootleg CD anyway. The simple premise is that Paul Nice has blended some well-known hip hop beats (Neptunes, Dr. Dre etc.) over some Sade tracks. Some work well, some not quite so. Def worth a download though especially if your a big Sade fan like myself.
Two classic tracks from Basic Channels offshoot label 'Main Street Records'. 'A New Day' just about edges it for me and I know many house music fans actually regard it as the best house tune ever made which is quite some statement but I've got to agree, it would definitely be up there for me too, it really is timeless. 'I'm Your Brother' is just as great - Andy Caine's vocals on both are beautifully understated. Sublime deep soulful house music.
Not much to say about this one except this is some classic Theo production. Hypnotic is a good word to describe it.
Very much looking forward to the debut Wahoo LP called 'Take It Personal' coming out on Fine Records in August. The title track is already becoming a classic which I'll hopefully post in the coming weeks when I get my hands on it. Meanwhile, heres a quality remix from a couple of months back.
Been feeling this one again - a great remix of EBTG from way back in 1996. A great example of some trademark sparse, atmospheric Photek drum programming/production.
This sounded particularly good again today in the sunshine. A quality Bossa-esque MAW remix of Karen Ramirez's debut 1997 single. Whatever happened to her after 'Looking For Love'?
Already a wicked track made even better by this excellent re-edit. If you like this then please go visit their blog (http://ooft.blogspot.com/) for more brilliant re-edits, remixes and rarities. Strictly limited download - available for seven days only.Enjoy:
Two lesser known Lupe tracks you may or may not have heard before. The former coming from a wicked Jaguar Skills mixtape from last year called 'Who Is He??!!'. The latter a remix of a song you will no doubt recognize straight away (the title alone gives it away) also coming from a mixtape, still sounding good with some pretty poignant lyrics:
Happy Birthday Stevie. 57 today. The term legend gets used a lot but he is only one of a few who without a question of a doubt actually deserves the title. Heres a hard to find wicked little edit. Turn this one up:
Continuing the African-themed remixes, heres another one of my personal favourites from 2000 by the French producer Llorca. Excellent stuff.
Heres a really nice Osunlade remix of a Salif Keita track from 2004. Its from the 'Remixes from Moffou' LP and is definately one of the stand out cuts.
Whilst I'm on the subject of my all time favourite tracks, here's another one for you. An original b-boy electro classic. I personally prefer this remix to the original from the same LP.
I first heard this a couple of years ago on the fantastic Tiefschwarz mix cd 'A Little Help For Your Friends' (http://www.discogs.com/release/62305). One of many standout tracks:
