Andre 3000 - Whole Foods LP

Been listening to this a lot recently. A wicked unofficial bootleg compilation of old & new Andre 3000 tracks/verses/productions. It's not even an official release but in my opinion is still one of the best releases of the year. His productions & lyrical flow/lyrics are just so good. You can hear the influence of other music genres, especially electronic Squarepusher type stuff, in his productions. Here he is even talking about his love of Squarepusher in a recent BBC Culture Show piece (Click here) . Anyway, I highly recommend this LP, a superb retrospective of one of the most talented musicians around. Download Here (Tracklisting In Comments Below)

Markus Enochson - No Stopping This (Feat. Masaya)

Three tracks here from Markus Enochson's overlooked 'Night Games' LP that came out on Sonar Kollektiv last year. Overall their are a couple of duffers on the LP but the six/seven stand out cuts more than make up for the rest. Very much a soulful 80's electronic house vibe going on throughout. Admittedly kinda 'poppy' sounding in some cases but that isn't always such a bad thing.

Markus Enochson - Day & Night (Feat. James Ingram)

Markus Enochson - Hear Me (Feat. Caroline)

Paul Nice - Sade Blends

I was initially just going to post a track or two up from this comp but thought I might as well put the whole thing up for download since it's a bootleg CD anyway. The simple premise is that Paul Nice has blended some well-known hip hop beats (Neptunes, Dr. Dre etc.) over some Sade tracks. Some work well, some not quite so. Def worth a download though especially if your a big Sade fan like myself.

Tracklist
01 - INTRO
02 - KEEP LOOKING
03 - LOVE IS STRONGER THAN PRIDE
04 - I COULDN'T LOVE YOU MORE
05 - JEZEBEL
06 - CHERISH THE DRE
07 - IMMIGRANT
08 - NO ORDINARY LOVE
09 - SWEETEST TABOO
10 - NEVER AS GOOD AS THE FIRST TIME
11 - HANG ON TO YOUR LOVE
12 - NOTHING CAN COME BETWEEN US
13 - KISS OF LIFE
14 - WAR OF THE HEARTS

Round Two feat. Andy Caine - New Day (Vocal Mix)

Two classic tracks from Basic Channels offshoot label 'Main Street Records'. 'A New Day' just about edges it for me and I know many house music fans actually regard it as the best house tune ever made which is quite some statement but I've got to agree, it would definitely be up there for me too, it really is timeless. 'I'm Your Brother' is just as great - Andy Caine's vocals on both are beautifully understated. Sublime deep soulful house music.

Mutt vs. Davis James Promo Mix 2007

A really nice little 30 min drum & bass mix Ive been enjoying recently which has a summertime vibe to it. Heres what the press release has to say about it: 'This isn’t an ordinary drum n bass mix, it is the combination of some classic liquid funk soul as well as live instrumentation courtesy of Davis James. Featuring James’ jazzy keyboard and guitar work over soulful drum n bass. These two artists have come together to combine live instrumentation and dj’ing, merging them together into one.'

Tracklist:
1. Mutt - Advance Money (Davis James RMX) - Breakbeat Science
2. Artificial Intelligence - Switch Off - Commercial Suicide
3. Logistics - Together - Hospital Records
4. Mutt - The Same We Always feel - Renegade Recordings
5. D.Kay - Serenade - Brigand

Jairzinho Oliveira - Disritmia

Brazilian music always seems to sound good in the sun so heres two excellent examples of a modern take on the 'Brazilian sound'.

Jairzinho Oliveira - Disritmia

Wilson Simoninha - Aquele Gol

Freddie McGregor - Natural Collie

This is also sounding perfect at the moment.

Wahoo - Don't Take It Personal

As requested and mentioned in one of my earlier posts, heres the title track and another standout from Wahoo's new LP. Wahoo are the duo of Dixon from Jazzanova and the excellent Georg Levin from Sonar Kollektiv fame. I will post a slightly older but absolute classic Georg Levin track in the forthcoming weeks once I can find it again.

Wahoo - Don't Take It Personal

Wahoo - Wishing

Benny Sings & Rednose Distrikt - Freedom

A superb track from last years 'Euh' LP on Dox Records. Both Benny Sings & Rednose Distrikt have released new LP's recently which I have yet to check. After hearing this track again, I will be hunting them down asap.

Benny Sings & Rednose Distrikt - Freedom

Stanley Clarke - Quiet Afternoon

My personal favourite from Clarke's classic 1978 LP 'School Days'. Perfect for chilling out to, as the title says, on a quiet afternoon.

Wale & Catchdubs - 100 Miles & Running Mixtape

If you haven't already downloaded this, do so. Probably the best mix-tape of the year so far...

Two quality remixes of the late great Kashmere Stage Band.

Jacksoul - Unconditional Love

This is another personal favourite of mine. I don't actually know anything about it except that it originally came out in 1994 and thats about it. I believe it was also on a Compost records comp last year compiled by Florian Keller but apart from that I have never seen/heard it or come across it anywhere else or have no idea who Jacksoul is. Such a soulful voice and beautifully arranged...I could listen to it on repeat forever.

Jacksoul - Unconditional Love

Jill Scott - Slowly Surely (Theo Parrish Remix)

Not much to say about this one except this is some classic Theo production. Hypnotic is a good word to describe it.

Jill Scott - Slowly Surely (Theo Parrish Remix)

Black Science Orchestra - Headspace Lullaby

One of the last things recorded before their untimely demise, this harmonica laden 2-step anthem is a bit of a underground classic which still sounds just as great today as it did when it first came out back in 2002. I love the breakdown in this...an end of the night anthem.

Black Science Orchestra - Headspace Lullaby

VA - Whatiswrongwithgroovin:Jazzman Sevens

Heres 3 of my favourite jazz-dance classics all from the same excellent compilation. I thought it was a pretty rare comp but then I came across this so it can't be that hard to find. Absolutely timeless stuff.

Fred Johnson - A Child Runs Free

Lorez Alexandria - Send In The Clowns

Letta Mbulu - What's Wrong With Groovin

Ben Westbeech - Hang Around (Wahoo Remix)

Very much looking forward to the debut Wahoo LP called 'Take It Personal' coming out on Fine Records in August. The title track is already becoming a classic which I'll hopefully post in the coming weeks when I get my hands on it. Meanwhile, heres a quality remix from a couple of months back.

New Sector Movements - Para

I remember hearing this I.G. Culture produced beauty on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show in 2000 and being blown away at the time. It may not sound as fresh now as it did back then but it's still a wicked track from an extremely talented producer.

New Sector Movements - Para

Julie Dexter - Ketch A Vibe

Whilst I'm on the subject of NSM, heres a wicked drum & bass tinged track from Julie Dexter who also appears on New Sector Movement's 'Download This' LP. This is my personal highlight from her 'Peace of Mind' EP also from 2000.

Julie Dexter - Ketch A Vibe

Everything But The Girl - Single (Photek Remix)

Been feeling this one again - a great remix of EBTG from way back in 1996. A great example of some trademark sparse, atmospheric Photek drum programming/production.

New Flesh - Transition / Bound

One more post for today, had to quickly put these two track's up from New Flesh's 2002 'Understanding' LP which came out on Big Dada records. I forgot how good the whole LP sounds in general and at how fresh it still sounds almost six years on.

New Flesh - Transition feat. Gwen Esty

New Flesh - Bound

Shade Of Soul feat. Mani Hoffman - Our Music

Many apologies for all the old tracks, I will post some newer ones up soon when I get around to it but I've just been going through a lot of older stuff recently. It's always a nice surprise to come across something you'd completely forgotten about. Heres another one from 2001 by Shade Of Soul who again I don't know anything about but I know the singer of this track, Mani Hoffman, also sang the pretty dire 'Starlight' by Supermen Lovers in the same year....this makes up for it though.

Shade Of Soul feat. Mani Hoffman - Our Music

Marc Alphonse - Contentment In Humidity

I don't know much about this except that it came out in 2001 on a new label at the time called 'Omoa Music' which I haven't heard from since. I also believe it was co-produced by Recloose. If anyone knows anymore info on it or what ever happened to Marc Alphonse or Omoa Music, I'd be quite interested to know. The same sampler this is on also has another great track which was quite big at the time I remember...Ayro's brilliant 'Let This Love'.

Marc Alphonse - Contentment In Humidity

Arthur Russell - Wild Combination

Sorry about the lack of posts recently. I've come back from holiday and been busy trying to sort stuff out now that I've finished being a student. Not looking forward to entering the real world at all. Anyways, heres a classic track from an artist that I didn't fully appreciate at first in my naive youth but who's work I quickly grew to really love. I highly recommend 'The World Of Arthur Russell' comp that came out on Soul Jazz records a few years back for anyone new to his work and anyone interested in good music in general for that matter. I also recently heard about this which I'm looking forward to. Buy more Arthur Russell, you won't regret it...

Karen Ramirez - Troubled Girl (Masters At Work Remix)

This sounded particularly good again today in the sunshine. A quality Bossa-esque MAW remix of Karen Ramirez's debut 1997 single. Whatever happened to her after 'Looking For Love'?
